Widely considered one of the greatest basketball teams of all time, the 1985/86 Boston Celtics were chock full of future hall of famers & had just added arguably the greatest passing big man of all time in William Theodore Walton III. Coming off the previous seasons 6 game finals loss to the rival Los Angeles Lakers, reigning three time NBA MVP Larry Bird would have to go through Micheal Jordan’s Bulls, Dominique Wilkins Hawks & Sidney Moncrief’s Bucks on route to the finals where they were widely expected to see Pat Riley’s troops once again. Bill Fitch’s Houston Rockets, led by the twin towers of then Akeem Olajuwon & Ralph Sampson, would prove ratings spoilers by shocking Magic Johnson & Co. in the Western Conference finals, denying the 67 win Celtics a finals rematch they sorely wanted.
